Only with purely electric and plug-in hybrids
CSB Schimmel Automobile has been the official automotive partner of the Füchse Berlin for almost 5 years. The car dealer reliably ensures the team's mobility. Today is a special day for both partners. The first-placed team in the handball Bundesliga table receives 8 new vehicles for free use from its official automotive partner. From now on, the players will only be travelling in all-electric and plug-in hybrid models from Hyundai. Depending on their driving behaviour and individual charging options, the players have received purely electric models or plug-in hybrid models. Now they charge instead of refuelling and all 8 Foxes can drive 100% electrically with the fleet.
The use of its own fleet of vehicles for travelling to and from training and the office was previously one of the handball club's biggest sources of emissions, accounting for 23.9% of total emissions. In the interests of sustainability, the existing fleet is therefore being gradually replaced by electric vehicles. As a first step, the players were equipped with 6 plug-in hybrids and 2 purely electric IONIQ 5s from the Hyundai brand.
Direct emissions from electric vehicles can be reduced by up to 100% if they are charged with green electricity. Purely electric vehicles save up to 33% of emissions compared to petrol vehicles if they are charged with grey electricity (German energy mix). Source: ClimatePartner
With a PHEV, it is very individual and the savings can be up to 100%, depending on the extent to which the vehicle is driven purely electrically and whether green electricity is used. Average values for the combined use of petrol and electricity are up to 23% savings (when charging with grey electricity) or 53% savings (when charging with green electricity). Source: ClimatePartner
A clearly quantified saving will be made after analysing the actual use of the electric cars by the players.
The CO₂ emissions caused by the vehicle fleet are to be reduced further and further. Today's vehicle change is the first major step in this process. The "Fuchsbau", the training centre in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, is to be equipped with charging points. In the next step, as soon as the training centre's charging infrastructure allows it, all players will switch to purely electric vehicles. This is the second major step. Further joint measures to reduceCO2 emissions
are being planned.
Füchse Berlin is the world's first climate-neutral handball club. To achieve this, the CO₂ emitted was initially offset via a certified climate protection project. Füchse Berlin is now gradually implementing its CO₂ reduction plan. However, it is not only in professional sport that it is not yet a matter of course for clubs to address the issue of sustainability. In the car trade, too, there are hardly any dealers who are clearly setting a positive example. In CSB Schimmel Automobile, the Füchse have an automotive partner that is just as boldly setting out into a sustainable future.
