Basically, air is cooled from the outside inside the car and blown out to the passengers. This is done by cooling the outside air drawn in by an evaporator. This is because the refrigerant in the air conditioning system extracts the heat from the air.
The deposition of such pathogens is the result of strong temperature differences within the evaporator. These differences cause the humidity to condense, creating a perfect breeding ground for pathogens.
Bad odours from the fan are a warning sign of inadequate air conditioning maintenance. The odour is a sign that the air ducts and the evaporator have been in a poor hygienic condition for some time. Every time the air conditioning system is switched on, spores and pollen are released into the air. This can irritate the airways of allergy sufferers well into the winter.
